Richard Yarrow’s opinion for www.startrescue.co.uk, providing low cost cover for Breakdown Assistance.
New research has revealed that nearly three-quarters of people in the UK have put-off a big job in the last six months. Fourteen per cent of motorists admit to delaying work needed on their cars. And we wonder why people need to use their vehicle breakdown cover?
The most frequent reasons cited are that the people questioned – the survey was carried out by Kwik-Fit – were trying to save money and that they didn’t have the time to do the job.
Ironically, a third of those said it actually cost them more money and/or took more time when they eventually did the job involved.
Top of the list of delayed tasks is going to the doctor or dentist, which makes sense because most people can still function to a reasonable level if they do put that particular trip off. But ignoring the fact your car needs work isn’t clever; you’re putting your faith in something that you hope is going to keep you safe at 70mph or more. Anything with that amount of trust in it needs constant attention, and that means getting over your worries about cost or time and getting on with it.
Finally, you will be wondering why there’s a picture of a pen at the top of this blog posting. It’s because of a Bentley press release which landed in my in-box this week. The opening sentence reads: “Bentley is delighted to announce that its pen partner Tibaldi has recently won the Most Exciting Motorsport Pen at Pen World’s 17th Annual Readers’ Choice Awards.”
You couldn’t make it up…
