December 17th is the day you are most likely to crash your car, with the month of December being a much riskier time in general – with double the number of crashes.
Those are the assertions of Co-operative Insurance, which has collated and analysed claims data from the last four years.
Between the dates of the 18th and 24th December car crash related claims increase by 53%. Of the data looked at, Ford Focuses tend to be most likely to be involved in a crash on December the 17th, followed by Vauxhall's Astra and Corsa models, in second and third place.
In terms of location, Scotland's largest city, Glasgow, saw most December 17th crashes; a Glaswegian (or a person driving in Glasgow) is 3.7 times more likely to get involved in a collision. Birmingham was only marginally less crash-prone, coming in 3.6 times higher than the average British town.
Uxbridge and Ipswich were three times more likely to play host to a collision on December 17th, while Brighton was twice as likely.
The insurer suggested that drivers are more tired on and around the 17th because of the large number of Christmas parties and social occasions, as well as being caught up in the rush to buy presents.
It seems that the best motor breakdown advice to garner from this report is to take the bus. Especially if you live in Glasgow, drive a Ford Focus, and had a big party the previous evening following a bit of late night shopping.
