Did you get along to the Run to the Sun Festival this year? This is a quite special anything-goes sort of festival that attracts people from across the country, offering a variety of music. But from an automotive point of view, one of the very best aspects of the festival is the ‘Cruise’. This is a cavalcade of outlandish vehicles (usually souped-up classic VW campervans), which starts off in Leigh Delamare, passes through Taunton Dean for a fuel and Spar-sandwich pit-stop, and then continues down to the rolling green hills along the Cornish Coast.

Unfortunately the Cruise took place in June, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take your van down to Cornwall and enjoy the spectacular coastline. If you do decide to take your van down westwards, make sure it is in good condition before you set off, as the steep hills of both Devon and Cornwall may prove to be a real challenge for some vehicles.

Whether you like surfing, soaking up the sun, or enjoying the world famous nightlife in towns like Newquay (actually it’s only Newquay that has nightlife), Cornwall might be the perfect place to head to this summer. If you take your van with you, you’ll be able to cut down on accommodation and drive around the many, many beauty spots of this county – both on the northern and southern coasts. Enjoy – and don’t forget to make sure your van breakdown insurance is topped up before you go!
