If you’re one of our car breakdown cover customers who isn’t into babies or royalty, then you may have had a tough time in recent days and weeks. The news that the Duchess of Cambridge was about to give birth was beamed around the world for days, and when she gave birth, as everyone expected she would, this news was also beamed around the world, for days. But where to hide from all the royal baby madness?
One place you won’t enjoy any respite is your local toy shop. Corgi have unveiled a limited edition Mini car, painted in powder blue and bearing a ‘royal baby logo’ picture drawn by a pupil of the Duchess of Cambridge’s former school.
The die-cast toy will join hundreds of commemorative plates and cups to mark the birth of Prince George Alexander Louis. Only 5,000 of the Minis will be manufactured, each priced at £9.99.
But if you’re dying to get your hands on a royal baby Mini, you’ll have to wait until September. Ordinarily one might question how wise it is to launch such a product over a month after the event it’s celebrating, but at this rate, the royal baby celebrations may go on until the prince utters his first word.
It’s no wonder that Corgi are leaping on to the baby band wagon, as the Centre for Retail Research – a UK market research outfit – estimates that the birth of the new prince will be worth around £250m to the British economy over the next two months.
