A startrescue.co.uk story...

Land Rover has unveiled images of the next generation Range Rover, a vehicle that came about way back in 1970. The new version is the fourth all-new design for the SUV, and features a number of design elements that separate it from its predecessors.

A new model is based on an all-aluminium monocoque structure, which should, say the manufacturers, reduce weight by an impressive 420kg. Such a development – the first of its kind in any SUV –is naturally good for the vehicle’s fuel efficiency, and thus the pockets of owners.

But with a price tag expected to be around the £70,000 mark, money is unlikely to be a big concern for those with an eye on the new Range Rover. Luxury, performance and off-road ability, however, will be. And the new model appears to have focussed equally on all three of these fundamental Range Rover brand identifiers.

It looks like it will still pack a lot of muscle – and reliability; owners of such an SUV are less likely to need to get vehicle recovery themselves, than be called upon to provide it to others.

The petrol version comes with a V8 engine, while the diesel can be purchased in V6 or V8 varieties. It will also boast ‘acoustic lamination’ on the windows, reducing the amount of sound coming from outside, and those traveling in the rear will be able to enjoy increased leg room (118mm to be precise). But judging by the images, the essence of this SUV’s predecessors has been preserved, largely by its overall proportions.
