We all love a good car boot sale, don’t we? Rooting around in other people’s unwanted stuff looking for a bargain, haggling over the price of some long-lost gem that will complete your collection of whatever it happens to be. There is an automotive equivalent of this joy – it’s called an Autojumble – and one of the biggest is taking place later this month.
I appreciate that Beaulieu, on the Hampshire coast, isn’t the easiest place for a large chunk of the UK’s population to get to. But if you’ve never been to an AutoJumble, and you’re at a loose end on 15/16 May, it’s worth the trip.
Around 1,000 traders will be selling car parts, automobilia, motoring literature and every accessory known to man. There are usually scores of complete vehicles for sale as well, ranging from concours classics to restorable relics. Professional demonstrations will turn the spotlight on techniques useful for restoring and repairing vehicles. Dozens of car clubs will use the event for get-togethers. In short, if you’re a petrolhead, you’re not going to get bored.
Beaulieu is also home to the National Motor Museum, which is an extra reason to go. Current exhibitions include ‘World of Top Gear’, which features some of the memorable vehicles creating during filming of the cult TV programme.
