A startrescue.co.uk story...

I've done numerous factory and production line tours during my time as a motoring hack, but yesterday's was a bit special. I'm writing this from a hotel room between Modena and Maranello in Northern Italy, having just come back from a tour of the Ferrari facilities.

I've seen the all-new FF four-seater (pictured left), and been inside the legendary company's design studios, which is a rare treat indeed because generally journalists don't ever get to go in places like that. I've seen the production line which turns out 24 completed cars each day, and the Classiche' department where historic models get rebuilt for owners.

I've also seen the office from where founder Enzo Ferrari ran the empire until his death in the 1980s. But the highlight has to be the door marked F1 Clienti' where people who have bought Ferrari's old F1 cars keep them in storage. We walked into a room and there were 30 single-seaters, all in the iconic red colour, just parked up. Owners come to use them on the famous Fiorano test track a few times a year. And in the next room were the FXX cars, Ferrari's ultra-exclusive track day club where the vehicle you buy will be shipped off to a circuit somewhere in the world by the company for you to spend a day doing a few laps. How the other half lives, eh?
